Two new labels added to our shelves in the past few weeks we are loving right now!
“The Sum” Red Blend – Seventy Five Wine Company ($24)
A unique blend from Tuck Beckstoffer, whose family is known to be one of the most famous grape growing families in Napa Valley. He continues his quest to produce wine that is reflective of the quality of Napa Valley fruit in an approachable and affordable manner. Under his 75 label he focuses on varietal Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, along with “The Sum” which is a Cabernet based blend.
We aren’t told what other varietals are added into this blend but from the beautiful dark fruit and slight smokiness I would guess Syrah, and the beautiful ripe fruit flavors suggest Zinfandel. There is beautiful fruit balanced with oak, nice acidity and smooth on the finish. I think the label is unique and the wine is delicious and would be great to pair with ribs or big, thick steaks on the grill.
2008 Evodia Old Vine Garnacha ($11)
We tasted this wine based on a suggestion from a customer and loved it! What a nice, easy drinking wine from a high altitude region of Spain
On first opening the bottle this wine came off big and spicy – but once it was open a bit and we had a second glass we got a lot of lush, juicy fruit – blackberry components and nice, soft, almost sweet tannins. This is a very aromatic, layered wine – I would serve this with flank steak sliced thinly and served with a Chimichurri sauce or some sort of salsa.
