Most people are getting geared up for a nice, long holiday weekend full of backyard barbecuing, pool partying and picnicking. Time to think about what wines you will be serving and enjoying over Memorial day, whether you are just sitting in the sun sipping something refreshing with friends, or if you are looking for the perfect wine to pair with your grilled steaks or burgers, look no further! Here are our suggestions for some great wines to enjoy this Memorial Day!
2009 Ballentine Vineyards Chenin Blanc
Refreshing!! Lots of ZING! This is a great “sit out on the patio and sip” wine! Or to be enjoyed poolside. Fruity, citrusy, and totally thirst quenching, with an unexpected, softer sort of vanilla influence on the finish. Just close your eyes and imagine that you are on a picnic amongst the vineyards in Napa. This will transport you there.
2006 St Francis Winery “Red”
This is such an amazing value for this wine! It’s under $10, it is full bodied, lush, fruit forward and balanced. Everything you are looking for in an easy to drink and easy to pair wine. This would be great with steaks on the grill or with ribs- and at this price it is party friendly!
2008 Pennywise Merlot
First let my start off by apologizing for this pretty crappy photo. Don’t know what was going on there. Regardless of what backlash there has been towards Merlot in the past few years, this one is pretty much takes the cake when you are talking delicious and affordable. Lots of layers – blackberry, mocha, a little bit of clove and spice. This would be the perfect partner to burgers.
Whatever your plans are this holiday weekend, just remember what is most important….spending time with friends and family, and having the right wine for the occasion! Enjoy!
