This Friday we are hosting a wine and cheese pairing event with a great local cheese purveyor – Blue Jacket Dairy.  I became acquainted with their cheeses during the summer months at the local farmers market and have loved them ever since. They offer a great variety; everything from a fresh, tangy Feta, to fresh mozzarella to what they call Gretna “Grillin” Cheese. This is a halloumi style cheese that once placed in a hot non stick skillet for approximately 30 seconds per side, turns a delicious golden brown and is the most delectable thing you have ever tasted!

Now this friday we wont be “grillin” any cheese in house, but it will be available for purchase along with an array of their cheeses. I am really excited about the wines for this tasting. We will be featuring a selection from Vangaurd Distribution and some really tasty selections at that. I cannot wait to sample / pair this wine in particular: 2005 “Les Elements” Pinot Gris from Domaine Bott Geyl in Alsace, France. This little gem from a small, family owned winery is one of my favorite little treasures on our shelves. Their wines are made naturally and great attention is paid to the details of their winemaking efforts. The flavor is delicate and elegant – hints of  white peach and nectar and a beautiful, floral nose. We will be pairing this delicious white with the “Houtz”. An aged cheese made from goat’s milk that is slightly sharp and nutty – the contrast will be perfect with this wine.
